Federal prosecutors have charged an Arizona man accused of forcing off the street a National Guard convoy transporting COVID-19 vaccines in West Texas, then holding 11 guard members at gunpoint.

Larry Lee Harris, 66, of Willcox, Arizona, has been charged with assaulting a federal officer with a lethal weapon, federal prosecutors introduced in a press release Friday. He already confronted state prices of aggravated assault, illegal restraint, impersonating a public servant, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and interfering with army forces.

Conviction on the federal cost is punishable by as much as 20 years in jail.

The incident occurred Monday in Idalou, Texas, about 12 miles (19 kilometers) northeast of Lubbock.

Police say Harris adopted the three National Guard vans from a gasoline station and tried a number of occasions to run them off the roadway earlier than turning his automobile into oncoming visitors to dam their progress.
